Judith John Patient Advocate
Judith John’s career spans all aspects of communications, marketing and public affairs, with broad community experience and an extensive background in arts, culture, not-for-profit, health and social services.
Ms. John was a senior hospital executive and remains active in health care. She was Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs at the Hospital for Sick Children and Senior Vice President of Communications and Marketing at Mount Sinai Hospital and Foundation. Ms. John works with hospitals including Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network, and Sinai Health System, concentrating on patient experience, partnerships and communications. At the Council of Academic Hospitals Ontario, she led government and stakeholder relations.
A patient advocate, Ms John has extensive speaking experience, and inNovember, 2019, she will gave the keynote address at the first international Patient Experience Forum hosted by the Qatar Health System in Doha, Qatar. She has been keynote presenter and lecturer for the Canadian Medical Association, Health Quality Ontario, Michener Institute, University of Toronto, Rotman School of Business, Schulich School of Business, Ontario Brain Institute, several LIHNs, Addiction and Mental Health Foundation, McMaster Health Forum and Acquired Brain Injury Society. She is a patient advisor for UHN’s Partners in Care, and was part of the Ontario’s Phoenix Project on education and care, Patients Canada, and The Change Foundation.
Ms John chaired the Province’s Quality Management Partnership Citizen Advisory Committee, and sat on the Partnership’s senior leaders Healthcare System Reference Group. She participated on the Ontario Brain Institute International Review Panel and McMaster Health System Sustainability Forum.
Ms. John is currently Vice-President of Engagement and Marketing, Royal Ontario Museum Governors;, responsible for communications, community outreach, marketing, donor relations, events and government relations. She is a member of the Board of Directors, Ontario Trillium Foundation, and of the Board of the Michener Institute. Previously, she served as Vice-President, Marketing and Communications, at United Way of Greater Toronto; and headed communications at Harbourfront Centre and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
From 1982-1999, Ms John was President of Acoustiguide of Canada, a multi-national company that provided recorded tours to galleries, museums and attractions across Canada. Clients included the Art Gallery of Ontario, Expo ’86, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, National Gallery of Canada, Royal Ontario Museum, City of Kingston, Glenbow Museum, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, and the City of Montreal art expo.
A writer, consultant, executive coach, mentor, facilitator and media trainer, Judith John has taught communications, ethics and marketing at universities and colleges across Ontario and has been a guest speaker for institutions worldwide.
