CCHL and Canadian Nurses Association Unveil New Nursing Leadership Program

April 17, 2023

The Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) and the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership to benefit nurses looking to explore and develop their leadership capabilities and influence change in the Canadian health system.

A new nursing leadership program, “Inspire Nursing: A LEADS-based Leadership Program” will be launched by the organisations on July 1. Nurses from across the continuum of care, including direct care nurses, emerging leaders, new managers, existing leaders, and nursing executives, who are looking to create opportunities to increase their leadership capabilities and have an impact on the health system will be able to take advantage of this best-in-class, high impact program.

Inspire Nursing will keep the best aspects of the Dorothy Wylie Health Leaders Institute, and be based in the LEADS in a Caring Environment health leadership capabilities framework. It is designed to provide nurses with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to be effective leaders in healthcare organizations and to effect system change. The innovative partnership will provide participants with membership in both organisations, and provide the ability to, upon completion, obtain the CHE designation and potentially a CNA certification.

“The Inspire Nursing program is a great opportunity for nurses who want to develop their leadership skills and take on more responsibility within their organizations,” said Alain Doucet, CEO of CCHL. “We’re excited to partner with CNA to offer this program and help nurses across Canada achieve their leadership goals.”

“CNA is very pleased to be able to partner with CCHL on the Inspire Nursing program. This new program will replace the Dorothy Wylie Health Leaders Institute, a long-standing Nursing Leadership program and fill an educational void that we continue to hear from nurses. We are excited to collaborate with CCHL on this program and be able to continue to support nurses to develop leadership skills and further their leadership journey.” said Tim Guest, CEO at CNA.

The program will cover a range of content, including defining individual leadership styles and growth opportunities, building engagement strategies, exploring systems thinking, and sparking change leadership abilities to influence the system within which the participants work. Inspire Nursing is delivered in a blended format that includes on-line synchronous and asynchronous facilitated learning that bookends a two-day in-person session.
